It’s not that often to hear from the CTO of a company on your first day at work that you are one of the most talented developers he knows. But Elena or how call her “Eli” did hear that, few weeks ago, when she started her second first day in BGO Sofware.
A talented team member leaving for another company always leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. It’s not a feeling you want to have every day. The best emotion, though, follows the worst one when they return. The happiest of all days, that’s all.
As a young developer, Eli started in BGO Software about eight years ago—and within few years had become a senior developer. But then she left the company to try out the corporate world for a while.
What would make her come back?
When asked how she felt about being back with us, Elena said: “I love working on projects that have an impact on people’s lives. That’s why I’m here.”
Elena is unique in that she compares stages in her life without being negative about any of them. This is the point at which we realize the junior we hired many years ago has matured.
“In big corporate you have the chance to play with the technology, to fully devote yourself to it,” Elena says, “but what keeps me engaged right now after being so much time in the industry is the development of business thinking and how your work brings value to the whole process or solution. You don’t just play with technology; you are an architect of a technology solution that, in our case, could potentially help a patient. That is why I am returning to BGO.”
What else did Eli tell us? Let’s find out!
How do you find the company after being missing for a few years?
I enjoy seeing the progress of the company and my coworkers. My junior buddies are already seniors. They have a lot of experience, mostly in healthcare, which has given them a lot of expertise and put them a few steps ahead of other developers who work in different industries across various projects. What I also like and missed about this place is that everyone here is your teammate; if you need something, you can ask literally everyone for help and they will always help you.
What about the company’s strategy of becoming a digital health software company first?
It’s a great step and decision, in my opinion. It definitely distinguishes us from other companies because we, as developers, have the opportunity to gain domain knowledge in healthcare and are closer to the very specific business cases that help us grow from task doers to solution architects. I believe BGO now has the perfect blend of product software and outsourcing companies, because it has the luxury of focusing solely on healthcare, which is very impactful.
What technology keeps you busy and, more importantly, motivated at work right now?
I am currently working on a clinical trials technology solution. This certainly keeps me busy 😊. Aside from that, I enjoy working with large amounts of data and then playing with it – statistics run through my veins. I’m hoping that the digital health space will provide me with tons of opportunities to expand my knowledge in that field.
What would you say to someone who is wondering whether to join BGO’s digital health movement?
If you want to gain domain knowledge in digital health but also work with various clients, projects, and technologies, if you are motivated by the outcomes of your work and want to strengthen your engineering thinking and become better at finding the balance between “perfect solutions” and what makes sense from the client’s perspective, BGO will be the place I would recommend.
Elena’s story is one of many examples of how BGO Software is not just looking for great talent; they’re looking for people who are passionate about what they do and who want to make a difference in their field.
